A bit about me…
My name is Maya, which means ‘Illusion’ or ‘that which we cannot see’ in Sanskrit. Coming from both English and Indian families has filled my entire life with a rich cultural diversity which now inspires the art I create.
Originally trained in Graphic Design at De Montfort University Leicester, I have always had a passion for art, design and writing. I love to observe and learn about the world and growing up in rural Northamptonshire has meant my interest in nature is one which is deeply ingrained.
Now based in my studio in Yorkshire, I run both my graphics design business and my art business, combining both worlds and both cultures into a rich and creative daily life.
My work has always been driven to have meaning and purpose. The insect series I am currently working on aims to bring awareness and connection across continents and hopefully inspire people to protect not only what’s on their doorstep but out in the wider world, and to appreciate the beauty of our tiny but important beasts.
The media I use is always changing, mainly so that it suits the subject rather than trying to force the subject to work in a chosen media. The art ends up creating itself in a way, always adding more layers of meaning.
Thank you so much for visiting me here and taking time to read a bit about me! I look forward to connecting with you and hopefully see you at one of my open studios.
Love Maya x
